Kinderlaunch Website

Overview

Kinderlaunch.org is an informational website built with WordPress, intended to capture applications for an early childhood educational program.

The Kinderlaunch organization was part of an organization with an existing website, pleasetouchmuseum.org, and needed to preserve much of the same branding from pleasetouchmuseum.org. The client also wanted to preserve the same admin portal UI to facilitate ease of administration in the new site.

Solution

Since the Kinderlaunch website needed the same branding as pleasetouchmuseum.org and the same admin UI was desired, we decided to clone the custom theme from the pleasetouchmuseum.org site, and modify it to produce the kinderlaunch.org site.

We also identified that security of the site was a priority since it collected personally identifiable information (PII) of minors

Implementation Details

The site was developed using WordPress with a custom theme, leveraging Gutenberg blocks heavily. We also had to create a custom post type to allow admins to easily create and update book recommendations to post on the site.

We had to recommend different hosting plans from the client's initial requests, in order to provide a level of security that was needed.

Also it was discovered that the original host was inadequate as a result of QA we performed which determined that redirection from the www version of the domain to non-www version was not possible on the original budget host

Notable features developed include the following:

• Custom homepage hero area, built into the custom theme
• Create custom patterns with Gutenberg
• Adapt legacy Genesis child-theme for this new site
